Labiaplasty & Pregnancy Dallas

Labiaplasty is frequently connected with previous pregnancies which stretched the labia during childbirth. In women who have had multiple childbirths, stretched labia, particularly the labia minora, (inner labia), are more prevalent.

Labia minora that are stretched during childbirth may protrude beyond the labia majora, (outer labia), creating physical discomfort. Labiaplasty can return the labia to their pre-pregnancy appearance, and can reduce discomfort during sexual activity or when wearing fitted clothing. This helps to reduce self-consciousness or embarrassment.

Reasons for having labiaplasty are sometimes better understood after you have been pregnant. However, if you are considering pregnancy in the future, you may be uncertain whether to have labiaplasty now, when the effects might be reversed during labor and childbirth.

While this website is not intended to convince you to have any particular type of plastic surgery, the following questions may help you decide whether or not to proceed with labiaplasty before pregnancy, or whether to wait until after you have given birth.

Are you already pregnant?

If you are already pregnant, it is probably best to avoid any type of trauma to your body if possible, including plastic surgery. However, you may wish to begin discussing your options with Cosmetic Surgeon in Dallas, Dr. Rai.

What do you hope to correct through labiaplasty?

If you are considering labiaplasty for aesthetic reasons, you might prefer to wait until after you have had your children. On the other hand, you may prefer to proceed with labiaplasty now if you are suffering from:

  • Physical discomfort
  • Discomfort in fitted clothing
  • Discomfort during sexual activity
  • Inability to reach climax
  • Emotional discomfort or self-consciousness

Is labiaplasty the right procedure?

You may be considering labiaplasty due to an inability to achieve climax. Many women with large inner labia also have a clitoral hood that blocks access to the clitoris. If this is the case, you can read more on our What is clitoral hood reduction? page.

Whether or not to have any type of genital plastic surgery, and when to have it, are very personal decisions. If you discuss your options with Dr. Rai, he can help you determine whether now is the right time or if you should wait.
